Boris & Horton, our community

As a community-driven space, it’s the people that come here that make us special. I am excited to have a way to spotlight some of those folks. This is the first of our members’ spotlights! Regular Nikki and her pup Jemma told us a bit about them, answered some largely unserious questions, and told us why they keep coming back to Boris and Horton.

How did Jemma come into your life?

She was a rescue from a puppy mill as a breeder dog, she was 3yrs old. When I took her in, I had her spayed, and she just came alive in my care. I was amazed by how playful and friendly she was after having such a tough start.

Did you always have a family canine friend/pet?

Yes, always cats and dogs, and they are part of the family, so I knew I would always end up with pets. I now have a cat Lily and dog Jemma.

When did you begin coming to Boris and Horton

I first started coming to Boris and Horton as soon as they opened back in 2018. I didn't have a dog, I just liked to be around them.

What keeps you coming back?

I identify with this community, my dog identifies with this community, and I love coming back to a happy place. I love that the events you put on are so inclusive for so many people.

Do you identify as a dog mom or is your dog your best friend?

Definitely Dog Mom. My dog isn't emotionally intelligent enough to be my friend. She needs to be taken care of, and I love caring for her. I can be happy or sad, and she still needs to go out and is kind of clueless. But she's the best.
