Boris & Horton, an evolution
Nearly a decade ago father-daughter duo Logan and Coppy opened Boris & Horton, originally envisioned as a dog-friendly coffee shop for passers by. Since then, it has become a destination for local residents, students seeking a puppy fix while they study, and tourists fascinated by this delightful mix of dogs and their friends.
Fast forward to early 2025, I stepped in as the new owner-manager of this unique watering hole with a goal of building on the existing foundation. We spent most of last year stabilizing the day-to-day operations, getting to know our customers, and thoughtfully transitioning community relationships through the change in ownership. We experimented with events to see what resonated.
In 2026, I hope to build further on our event programming. From product samplings, specialty dinners, adoption days and, of course, plenty of photo opportunities from general puppy shenanigans to Santa Claus, these happenings are part of what builds our community.
Our most recent experiment waded us more permanently into evening programming. With Boris & Horton “After Dark” we’re staying open later on weekends, hoping to bring the same joy and social gatherings into folks’ evening routines as their morning ones.
Like my predecessors, and every small business in New York City, we continue to navigate real challenges. The economy remains uncertain, café traffic can be unpredictable, and sustainability requires constant creativity and care. And yet, with community, we persist. From regulars who start their mornings with us to new visitors discovering the space for the first time, this café remains a place where connection—human and canine alike—comes first. While challenges persist, we remain deeply optimistic, and are evolving thoughtfully to build a business fueled by joy, caffeine, pets, and people. Come say hi!
